100 Club To Saved By Mystery Sponsor?

London’s 100 Club could be saved from closure due to donations from a mystery sponsor. According to numerous reports, owners of the Oxford Street venue are currently in talks with an unidentified sponsor who will help the club to stay open.

The infamous club has been under threat of closure due to supposedly extortionate rent costs, and was set for a certain closure until a group of musicians and supporters started a campaign to save the venue. The campaign at savethe100club.co.uk has featured testimonials and contributions from many artists including Sir Mick Jagger, Peter Blake and Paul Weller. Liam Gallagher also showed his support for the club earlier this month by contributing a hand written note praising it as: "very rock'n'roll. Sorts the men out from the boys. A real shame, fancied playing there with the mighty Beady Eye."

However, owner Jeff Horton has given good news to many this week by confirming that the venue is in the middle of sponsorship talks which would save it from closure: “We are actually in talks now with somebody who's stepped forward who wants to sponsor the club. I can't tell you any more than that because I've signed terms so I'm tied to a confidentiality agreement.”

He added: “But I'm hopeful that something positive can be announced in the next week or so. It would involve the club keeping going — it would remain with me.”

Sir Paul McCartney recently lended a helping hand to the venue by playing his smallest gig in over a decade at the 100 Club last Friday (December 17th). McCartney played a selection of solo material and Beatles favourites to just over 300 audience members.
