Rock legends Pink Floyd have signed a new five-year deal with EMI, ending a lengthy legal dispute between the two parties.
The agreement will come as good news to the record label, which has lost several major acts including Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and Radiohead since being taken over by a separate private equity company in 2007.
Last year the band sued EMI for digitally selling tracks which were “unbundled” from their original albums, an action which supposedly went against the terms of their contract with the label. Pink Floyd won an early round of the court battle, but the case continued as EMI made an unsuccessful legal appeal. However, it would appear that the band, who have been signed to EMI for over four decades, were made content by their new deal with the label. In an official statement, EMI CEO Roger Faxon stated: “All legal disputes between the band and the company have been settled as a result of this new deal."
He continued: "Pink Floyd are one of the most important and influential bands of all time and I know I speak for everyone at EMI when I say that it is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them. We're looking forward to continuing to help the band reach new and existing fans through their incredible body of work."
