Professor Green’s Attacker Sentenced To Eight Years In Prison

Thursday, 13 January 2011 Written by James Conlon

Professor Green’s attacker has been sentenced to an eight-year jail sentence, it has been revealed. Anthony Jones, 26, was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent and will now serve a minimum of four years in prison.

Jones was originally convicted of the charges at Snaresbrook Crown Court in October, but he was forced to wait until earlier today (January 13th) to find out his final sentence. Jones, who was a student at London Metropolitan University, stabbed Professor Green with a broken bottle outside a nightclub in May 2009, leaving the rapper with substantial wounds on his neck. Judge John Lafferty (who oversaw the case) described the actions as “a premeditated attack”.

The rapper (real name Stephen Manderson) had told the court that he thought he would die directly after the incident: he phoned relatives on the night of the attack to say his goodbyes. Speaking to the BBC earlier today, the rapper said: "I nearly lost my life and I was in a position where I stood to lose everything if I don't go to court."

He continued: "It wasn't like I was snitching because I wasn't taking anything off my shoulders and putting it on someone else's, but at the same time there was something morally correct to do."

Meanwhile, Professor Green has announced a one-off gig at London’s Scala in King’s Cross on February 8th.
