American songwriter Taylor Swift has unveiled the video for her latest single, ‘Back To December’ today (January 13th). The song is the second single to be released from Swift’s hugely successful third studio album, ‘Speak Now’.
The video depicts a pensive-looking Swift, walking around a house in her pajamas lamenting the loss of a past relationship. The video continues to oh-so subtly reinforce Swift’s ‘December’ metaphor as snowflakes fall from inside the house...passionate stuff. Understandably, it is an understated affair as many fans have speculated that the song is a direct apology to her celebrity ex-boyfriend, Twilight’s Taylor Lautner.
Swift has never directly admitted that the song is about Lautner, but it clearly holds an emotional resonance with the singer. Speaking to MTV back in October, she discussed the track, saying: "I’ve never felt the need to apologize in a song before, but sometimes you learn a lesson too late and at that point you need to apologize because you were careless. This is about a person who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship, and I was really careless with him.”
Meanwhile, Swift is enjoying her third spell at the top of the US Billboard chart with her latest album, ‘Speak Now’. However, sales-tracking company SoundScan have claimed that it is the lowest ever sales for a Number One album since they began tracking records in 1991: ‘Speak Now’ managed to top the chart despite having only sold 52,000 copies in the past week.
