A press release posted on The Black Keys' official website has announced that the blues-rock duo have been forced to cancel their upcoming tours of Australia, New Zealand and Europe due to exhaustion.
The Akron, Ohio natives latest album ‘Brothers’ has received huge commercial and critical success, highlighted by a placing of #2 on Rolling Stone Magazines' Top Albums of 2010, and the announcement of the cancellation will come as a huge disappointment to the thousands of fans who had already purchased tickets. The statement confirms that all gigs scheduled for Australia and New Zealand, including the ‘Big Day Out’ festival, will be wiped out completely.
Formed in 2001, The Black Keys' success has been built on energetic live performances and extensive touring leading up to the release of ‘Brothers’ in early 2010. A series of festival performances and a UK tour last summer cemented their place as one of the rising stars of the rock scene.
The full statement reads; “The Black Keys are sorry to announce the cancellation of the New Zealand and Australian tour including all appearances at the Big Day Out touring festival as well as a portion of the European tour in March. An arduous year of touring and promotion has drained the band and necessitated time off. Dan and Patrick wish to thank all of you who have shown such incredible support since the release of Brothers and have helped make the album a success.”
