OMD, aka Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, are a British new wave group, currently consisting of founding members Andy McCluskey (vocals and bass) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards), as well as original drummer Malcolm Holmes, Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw.
The band are recognised one of the most influential British bands of the 1980s and have sold over 40 million records to date. Formed in 1978, the group achieved the majority of their success in the '80s, releasing seven albums, four of which charted in the Top 10. 1981's ‘Architecture & Morality’ was their highest charting album, reaching #3. After Humphreys, Holmes, and Cooper left the band for a numbers of years, the original line up reunited in 2006 and put out a new record, ‘History of Modern’, in 2010, and another, ‘English Electric’ in 2013. The band released their latest album, ‘The Punishment of Luxury’, in 2017. 2019 also saw them release a comprehensive career anthology titled 'Souvenir'. OMD will play a one-off livestream show from London's Indigo at the O2 in June 2021, and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the seminal 'Architecture & Morality' with a UK tour in November that year. They have also rescheduled their special headline shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall to March 2022 in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Fantastic
Glasgow Band stand glasgow on August 3 2018
The band were great. OMD had the crowd buzzing. It brought back so many memories from the eighties and I would like to see them again. Hopefully they will be touring the UK next year again, if so can't wait. I also saw them at the rewind festival in Perth, where they were fantastic.
