New Eva Cassidy Album Hoping To Peform Well In Charts

10 years after Eva Cassidy’s ‘Songbird’ album went to number 1 in Britain, her new album ‘Simply Eva’ is set to enter her into the Top Ten of UK charts again this Sunday.
The record is a collection of previously unreleased acoustic songs featuring just Eva’s voice and guitar. With the exception of the (previously unheard) ‘San Francisco Bay Blues’, the songs are alternative acoustic versions of known Eva songs – these recordings are straight from the original tape without any alteration. ‘Simple Eva’ includes ‘Over The Rainbow’, the song that Terry Wogan played on his Radio 2 show in 2000, which first drew attention to her extraordinary voice. Simple Eva was fully released on the 31st of January, and is hoping to perform well in this Sunday’s charts.
Eva, who died of melanoma in 1996, was unknown outside of her native Washington prior to her death but has now sold over 8 million records and achieved an unprecedented three consecutive posthumous UK No. 1 albums as well as the No.1 single ‘What a Wonderful World’ (a posthumous duet with Katie Melua).
Bill Straw, president of Blix Street Records, spoke about the release. “It was simply time to focus on the core of Eva Cassidy recordings, namely, the voice and Eva’s superb guitar work which had previously been a bit lost in the shuffle of other instruments. In doing so, I literally heard Eva for the first time, again. That I was hearing mostly the same songs in a different way actually added to my sense of rediscovery.”
Eva’s parents, Hugh and Barbara Cassidy, also revealed that “Simply Eva is the album Eva’s admirers have been waiting for.”
