Christina Aguilera Fluffs National Anthem At Super Bowl XLV

American pop veteran Christina Aguilera has found herself subject to criticism after messing up a line of the National Anthem at last night’s Super Bowl. The singer claimed that she made the mistake after becoming "lost in the moment", where she lost her place in the song and repeated an earlier line.

Aguilera was supposed to sing the line: "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming", but instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation. She sang, "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming," repeating an earlier lyric, with the word 'watched' instead of 'hailed' and 'reaming' instead of 'gleaming.'

The mistake was rapidly picked up by the audience of over 100 million viewers, who took to social networking sites to express their criticism.

Speaking on CNN after the performance, the singer made a quick apology, saying: “I got so lost in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

When she was initially named to sing the Anthem, Aguilera issued a statement which called the opportunity a "dream come true", adding: "I have been performing the anthem since I was 7 years old."
