The Godfather of shock rock, Alice Cooper, has announced that his latest album is complete and ready for release.
Speaking on his ‘Nights with Alice’ radio show on Planet Rock last night, Cooper said ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare is done. It’s just sitting there’. There were no further details of a release date for the record, although Summer seems a reasonable expectation.
‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’ will be Cooper’s 25th studio album and he has billed it as a sequel to his 1975 release ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ which was his first solo recording.
The original was a concept album based around the nightmares of a character called Steven and Cooper says, "It’s the next nightmare. 30 years later he has another nightmare, and this one is even worse than the last!"
The album has also been produced with Bob Ezrin who worked on the original, "I haven’t worked with Bob in a long time. After the 35th anniversary of Nightmare, I said ‘Why don’t we start writing something else?’ and he said ‘why don’t we just do part 2?’ We’d never done part two so I went ‘That’s a great idea, let’s get me and you together."
After headlining Friday night at last year’s Sonisphere festival, Alice Cooper will play this year's Download festival in June.
