Scumbag Philosopher To Release Self-Titled Debut Single On March 28th

Formerly known as Fuck Dress, the Norwich avant garde rockers re-emerge as Scumbag Philosopher with their self-titled single produced by Phil Vinall (Placebo, Pulp. Elastica) on US indie label Words on Music on the 28th March 2011. Check the track out below.

Re-produced and mixed by Phil Vinall (Placebo, Pulp, Elastica, Das Pop, The Victorian English Gentlemens Club), the eponymous first single from their lengthily titled debut album, 'Scumbag Philosopher' takes aim at the type of relentlessly and pointlessly opinionated bigot that we all know. It could be your Dad's mate Dave from work, the old soak at the bar of your local or even the fountain of 'common sense' that is the irascible lead singer of your favourite veteran alt-rock band. Whoever or whatever, if you just want them to shut the fuck up or fuck off and die 'Scumbag Philosopher' is that gulped down primal scream set to music.

The debut version of the band’s single ‘Suburban Nietzsche Freak’ was released on 7’’ vinyl on NR One Records in mid-2008 and was championed by the likes of Rob Da Bank, Tom Robinson, John Kennedy and Queens of Noize (6Music) with a significant amount of bloggers buzzing about them. The single charted on Spanish and Italian TV and national radio charts plus received worldwide airplay or coverage including in Sweden, Germany,New Zealand and France with it selling out within weeks of release.

The band then caught the attention of US indie label Words On Music for a full length release, so time was taken out in 2009-2010 to record their debut LP. Now armed with a new name and single, both called ‘Scumbag Philosopher’, plus the 2nd single entitled ‘God Is Dead So I Listen To Radiohead’ and the album ‘It Means Nothing So It Means Nothing’ lined up for release during the 1st half of 2011, the band are set to make their mark beyond the underground.

One journalist described them as: “an odd yet still strangely catchy kind of post-punk racket - alienated, knowing and not afraid of wearing its smartness on its sleeve.” Their intelligent yet quirky lyrics delivered in a spoken word-style alongside their art rock musical approach with a range of influences backing it including The Pixies, The Fall, Art Brut, These New Puritans, and US college rock outfit King Missile are sure to make them standout this year.
