Carl Barat Confirms There Will Be No Libertines Shows For 2011

Singer and lead guitarist of the Libertines Carl Barat has spoke out about why he will not be bringing the band back together with Pete for concerts any time soon.
There were rumours and tales flying about that the post-punk rockers would be out playing shows together once again, and that they may make an appearance at either Leeds or Reading festival again after last year’s performances.
But the band’s management stepped in and made it clear that they wouldn’t be playing the circuit any time soon with an official statement. And now Barat has revealed why.
"Just to quell any speculation, there will not be any Libertines shows this summer, as perfect as last year was, Peter (Doherty) and I have not written anything new together at this point.
"We are all busy doing very different things separately. Truly moving as it was to play Reading, Leeds and the Forum it would not be right to do this every year without new material as I'm sure most would agree.
"You never know though, some day I hope we'll write the next album."
But although Barat has not been putting pen to paper with Pete, he is set to tour the UK on his own, with his own new material, through March and April – including a 50 capacity secret show in London, which will be recorded for the release of his four-track EP, which will see a digital release on the 4th of April.
