Never one to shy away from controversy, Axl Rose has had his lawsuit against Activision, the creators of the Guitar Hero video game franchise, approved in an LA courtroom.
Axl’s case is based on an agreement he claims was made between himself and Activision that 'Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock' would not feature Slash or Velvet Revolver when he gave his blessing for Guns N Roses tracks to be used. Axl owns the rights to the band's name and all songs written by the band.
Activision went against this alleged agreement by, not only including Slash on the cover of the game but also as a playable character. The top-hatted guitar legend also featured in the games promotional adverts and Velvet Revolver tracks were offered as downloadable songs.
Recent wishful thinking that Guns N Roses may be considering a reunion of the original band line-up was also blown out of the water with Axl confirming he has no wishes for ‘his band’ to be associated with their former guitarist in any way.
“Simply put, the association between Slash and Guns N' Roses ended almost 15 years ago. Rose resists any attempts to revive or strengthen this past association," the legal complaint says.
The trial is scheduled for 23rd January, 2012.
