Arcade Fire Set To Film Music DVD In Haiti

Arcade Fire will film a new DVD, documenting the band as they perform with local musicians from Haiti. According to the band’s primary fan site Us Kids Know, the band will be visiting the country within the next few months to film the DVD.

The project will be captured by British photographer Leah Gordon, who is best known for ‘Kanaval’, his collection of photos and Haitian histories published in 2010. Full details are yet to be confirmed, but the project will feature the band playing live (presumably their own material) at a series of venues around the country.

The band have been long-term advocates of the campaign for Haiti, raising money throughout their 2010/11 tour. They have pledged to donate over $1 million to charitable causes in the country, encouraging their fans to donate whenever possible. The Grammy Award-winners even used their acceptance speech at the ceremony to promote the cause.

Arcade Fire have a personal investment in the country: singer Régine Chassagne's parents emigrated from the country during the regime of Jean-Claude Duvalier. The country has had a deep impact on her creatively, and is referenced both in ‘Haiti’ and ‘Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)’.
