Lee Scratch Perry, The Fall & More Confirmed For UK’s First Ever Pop-Up Festival - Outside:Inside

Friday, 25 March 2011 Written by Jon Stickler

Reading’s favourite town centre festival is back this summer and this year it’s going to be more innovative than ever before. In a bid to keep on pushing the boundaries of music and art as we know it, the event will be taking on the challenge of becoming the UK’s first ever pop-up festival.

A few days ago, festival organiser, Jack Hepplewhite, announced the Festival’s first raft of lead headliners. The incredible Lee Scrath Perry (pictured), one of the most important men in the world of Dub and Reggae, is revealed as a Sunday night headliner. Other headliners include Brit post-punk band and John Peel favourites, The Fall, as well as the inimitable DJ Derek, who, following a youth spent playing with the great and good of the reggae world, has now gained legendary status as a DJ in his late 60's with a thirst for ale and partying.

Stages will be curated by some of the country’s premier promoters, including Skint Mondays, We All Live & Die and BBC introducing.

This new pop-up status will delight and surprise as events literally ‘pop-up’ all over town with its landscape transformed by the opening of previously undiscovered areas, with more diverse buildings, bigger bands and eclectic cuisine.  Pop-up venues, cinemas, theatres and restaurants will spring out from courtyards, closed shops, empty office spaces, churches, bars, venues, and open green spaces across the month of July.

The festival organisers are also planning a free public launch party at the Oakford Social Club on the 29th April. Featuring Kid Carpet + Benin City.

This will be followed by a warm-up gig at Reading’s Sub89 to whet the public appetite in the run-up to the big event in July:

8th May 2011: Sub89 - Pure Reason Revolution + Losers + A Genuine Freakshow

9th – 30th July 2011: Outside:inside Festival 2011 - ‘The UK’s FIRST EVER pop-up festival’ - Reading, Berkshire, UK

Announced Line-Up:
Lee Scratch Perry / The Fall / DJ Derek
Plus many more TBA
