Adele equalled Madonna’s chart yesterday by earning her ninth week on top of the UK albums chart. The singer is now the first female artist to have been at Number One for that long since Madonna’s ‘The Immaculate Collection’ in 1990.
Not only did the London-born singer maintain her amazing chart run with her sophomore album, ‘21’, but the young star also earned the Number Two spot with (once again) resurgent sales for her debut release, ‘19’.
New York rockers The Strokes earned the Number Three spot with their comeback ‘Angles’, while Jessie J was placed at Number Four with debut release ‘Who You Are’. The highest new entry in the top ten came from Ronan Keating’s collaboration with Burt Bacharach, ‘When Ronan Met Burt’, which placed at Number Five.
Other new entries included Nicole Scherzinger, who earned Number Eight with ‘Killer Love’, and Chris Brown, who claimed the Number Ten spot with ‘F.A.M.E.’.
In terms of singles, Adele saw resurgent form with her hit single ‘Someone Like You’. The singer earned the Number One place once again after knocking Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ from the top spot.
