New Boyz New Single Release Date Set

American hip-hop duo New Boyz are poised to release new single ‘Backseat’.

New Boyz sparked a cultural phenomenon when they launched their debut single ‘You’re A Jerk’. With 60 million views of the accompanying video, the track inspired teenagers all over the world to jerk; a dance craze that combined the best of break-dancing, krumping and the Running Man.

Now New Boyz return with the release of their new single ‘Backseat’ on May 9th on Warner Bros. Records / Shotty / Asylum. Produced by indie-dance duo The Cataracs, it merges pop with hip-hop inspired fun and features vocals from the rising starlet Dev. Uploads of the video have already accumulated over a million views at YouTube – the official lyrics video for the track received 200,000 views in its first week online. The video is embedded below.

‘Backseat’ is taken from New Boyz’s second album ‘Too Cool To Care’ that will follow in the summer. It sees the duo’s sound evolve with elements of electro, alternative rock and R&B blended with their hip-hop roots, all the while infused with their trademark wit and confidence. Other highlights on the album include the Iyaz-featuring summer jam ‘Break My Bank’ which became Asylum’s fastest record to hit #1 on any American airplay chart, the DJ Khalil-produced ‘Tough Kids’ and ‘Your Boyfriend Is A Lame’ which finds Ben J and Legacy effortlessly trading boasts in the vein of a young LL Cool J.

“We still support the movement, but we wanted to show our creativity without being tied to jerkin’,” said Legacy, one-half of New Boyz alongside Ben J. “’Too Cool To Care’ is about how we’ve always gotten criticism from those who want to hate on our fashion or our style. But we’ve always done our thing. The album has crazy pop tracks, rock songs and electronic songs. We’re testing our boundaries.”

“We wanted to show that we’ve grown up a little bit. It’s not something out of leftfield, but want to show the world that we’re the New Boyz and we always do new things,” added Ben J.

The success of ‘You’re A Jerk’ delivered huge attention on the then 17-year-old New Boyz. The duo became the focus of articles in publications such as The L.A. Times, L.A. Weekly and The New York Times, toured with Chris Brown and Sean Kingston, and were nominated for Best Group at both the BET and Teen Choice Awards. They also landed another Stateside hit with the multi-platinum single ‘Tie Me Down’ that featured Ray J.
