Lil Wayne Forces To Cancel European/UK Tour

Jailbird Lil Wayne has been forced to cancel all of his up and coming UK/European shows – because he was refused a work permit.

The news comes less than a week after the rapper confirmed he would be playing at Live at the Marquee festival in Cork. He was denied a visa due to his previous convictions, which saw him in jail for the majority of 2010.

Set to tour all of Europe, as well as festival slots along the way, the American star was ready to promote his forthcoming ninth studio album ‘Carter IV’, which hits stores on May 13th.

Lil Wayne was only released from an eight-month spell in prison, following on from a weapons charge after being arrested in 2007, after being found with cannabis and a pistol following a show in New York.

He has had many a run-in with the law, after police found 105 grams of cannabis, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of MDMA on his tour bus in 2008, as well as being detained on the Texas border in 2009, after yet another weed find on the star’s tour bus.

Earlier this week Lil Wayne confirmed a summer Ireland show in Cork, at the Live at the Marquee. Tickets for the show were set to go onsale this Friday, with UK dates expected to be confirmed shortly afterwards. As mentioned the tour has now been scrapped due to reports of work permit issues.

Organisers for the Irish show confirmed the news, "Aiken Promotions regret to announce that Lil Wayne has been forced to cancel his European tour due to work permit difficulties in the UK. As a result Lil Wayne has cancelled his Live at the Marquee Cork date on the 4th of July 2011."
