Neil Young And The Chrome Hearts Confirm Release Date For New Studio Album 'Second Song'

Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts will release a new studio album this autumn.
Announced back in the spring, 'Second Song' will be released through Reprise Records on September 18, following 2025's 'Talkin To The Trees'. It was an analogue recording process at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, with production by Lou Adler and The Volume Dealers (Young and Niko Bolas).
The album comprises seven mostly acoustic songs all written by the Canadian-American rock legend. Five are previously unreleased, while the other two (Casting Me Away From You and I’ll Love You Forever) are new versions of earlier recordings. The album delivers a warm, reflective sound that recalls Young's earlier records, such as 1978's 'Comes a Time' and 2005's 'Prairie Wind'.
Alongside the announcement, Young and The Chrome Hearts — Spooner Oldham (keys), Micah Nelson (guitar, vocal), Corey McCormick (bass, vocal) and Anthony LoGerfo (drums) — have shared the album's 11-minute first single and title track, which blends gentle strummed guitars, piano and harmonica with Young's distinctive vocals.
In May, Young and The Chrome Hearts put out a live album titled 'As Time Explodes', which was initially released as a limited edition double vinyl for Record Store Day earlier this year.
