Following their recent addition to the line-up of Arcade Fire’s Hyde Park concert in June, along with Mumford and Sons and The Vaccines, US folk band Beirut have confirmed details of further UK live dates for 2011. The group will return to these shores in September for an appearance at Dorset’s End of the Road festival, as well as headlining dates at Manchester Academy and London’s O2 Brixton Academy.
Beirut started out as the solo project of founding member Zach Condon, but later became a collective. Their music has been recognised for its combination of Eastern European and Balkan folk music with American indie rock. They have released two albums to date, 2006’s Gulag Orkestar and 2007’s ‘The Flying Club Cup’, with a third expected this year.
‘The Flying Club Cup’ was part-recorded at Arcade Fire’s studio in Quebec, Canada. The album also features Canadian composer Owen Pallett, who has previously collaborated with Arcade Fire on their albums. Beirut will join Arcade Fire at their Hyde Park concert on 30th June.
