The Descendents Self-Confirm for Reading and Leeds Following London Gig Cancellation

After The Descendents’ show at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Monday night, which was wrought with problems related to vocalist Milo Aukerman losing his voice, the LA punk legends have decided to cancel their second night at the venue. The two dates, which were both sold-out, marked the band’s return to the UK for the first time in 14 years. An announcement from the band, which has been published on the website of Big Cheese Magazine who were sponsoring the shows, confirms that the second night in London has had to be cancelled, but that the band will be returning to the UK for the Reading and Leeds festivals in August.

The statement reads: “Realizing that many people have travelled from far away for these London shows, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation. We will, however, be playing both the Leeds and Reading festivals and are looking forward to resuming the quest for all. A very important step in this quest is for Milo to undertake an intensive regime of vocal strengthening. This, combined with scheduling days off every few shows, should ensure that another voice ‘blowout’ doesn’t happen. Thank you for being there for us (and with us) for so many years.”

The last time the Descendents were over in the UK was back in 1997, following the release of their fifth album ‘Everything Sucks’. The Descendents were founded in 1979 by drummer Bill Stevenson and released their debut album ‘Milo Goes to College’ in 1982. The reason behind this title was that the vocalist left the band, shortly after recording the album, to study biochemistry – a career that he still works in to this day. His work commitments are the main reason for the band’s intermittent inactivity since their formation. Bill Stevenson has previously drummed for a number of other bands over the years, including fellow LA punk legends Black Flag and indie-rockers The Lemonheads.
