The Voluntary Butler Scheme Announces New Album & Live Dates

Voluntary Butler Scheme, the one-man project from Dudley-based musician Rob Jones, has revealed details of his new album ‘The Grandad Galaxy’, which is due for release on 18th July. The album is Jones’s second to date, following his 2009 debut ‘At Breakfast, Dinner, Tea’. The Voluntary Butler Scheme will also be touring the UK this month as support for The Victorian English Gentlemen’s Club and former Beta Band frontman Steve Mason. See below for dates.
Speaking about his music, Jones said: “I like a lot of music and I always have. For ages I didn't know how to make a lot of the music I like, so my first album focused on soul-y pop with ‘70s Nick Lowe inspiration. But I've been nerding out every day for the last 11 years about how to do things, and it’s coming together now.”
Going on to explain the album’s title, he added: “Some of the influences are grandad heavy, real old things like ‘50s pop music – Buddy Holly and that – with really simple tunes, uncynical lyrics, nice clean guitar, but at that same time, I'm really into stuff that I think would offend Buddy Holly's ears. ‘The Grandad Galaxy’ sounded like a meeting of them things in a title.”
