Carl Barat: “I’ll Never Talk About The Libertines Again”

Friday, 13 May 2011 Written by James Conlon

Carl Barat has made a definite statement claiming that The Libertines will not reform in the near future, also saying that he will no longer discuss the band in interviews. When asked about the prospect of a permanent reunion, the singer was quick to assert that the band are in no place to reconveine at the moment, and the prospect of a reformation would be far off, if ever.

Speaking to NME, the singer discussed their recent documentary, ‘There Are No Innocent Bystanders’, a film which tracked the band during their most turbulent days. He identified the film as a closing of The Libertines chapter in his life, claiming that a full reunion is unlikely to ever happen.

Barat said: "For me, this is the death-knell of my Libertines press. I'm not going to talk about it ever again. I don't want to. What the fuck is the point? The film has said it all. If it made me happy like it did then, back in the day, then I'd do it (a full reunion) and it'd be great.”

He continued: “But I refuse - pointedly to make any kind of other record, recording or song written on the pain and nastiness and upset and anything negative that's happened in the past. If we do then it will be a bad record, so what the f**k's the point?"

"I'm just doing other stuff now - I'm writing another solo album, I've got a baby boy, that's my life. Right now I'm into that. I need to heal. Especially after all this. This is the end of a very long and hard road for me."

However, seemingly not content to leave the band’s diehard fans without a shred of hope, Barat did state that in the distant future a reunion may be possible. He said: "We are all in very different places. Right now is not the time for The Libertines. I thought the water under the bridge was under the bridge, but maybe it's not. It's a very fucking hard thing. Every time we talk it just brings it back up. I don't believe we're healed from the hurt. If our hearts heal up then we can break them all over again. But right now...it's hard."
