Gruff Rhys, lead-singer and songwriter for Welsh band Super Furry Animals, has anounced a UK tour for October.
Gruff Rhys is no stranger to the music business. He released his debut solo album 'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth' (meaning The Stuttering Generation) in 2005, receiving huge critical acclaim for it. Gruff Rhys' music is both sweet and trippy and whether solo, or fronting the Super Furries', his melancholy vocals and psychedelic lyrics never sound better than on a long, warm summers day.
He released his third solo album, 'Hotel Shampoo’, earlier this year on 14th February 2011 with lead single 'Shark Ridden Waters’ being generally well received by fans. It’s video, featuring French actress Roxanne Mesquida, is described by Gruff’s Youtube channel as ‘depicting a distracted man lost in a world of social networking’ and the light, bouncy pop and distinctive vocals maintain the sound delivered by Gruff’s previous solo work as well as his Super Furry Animals material.
Gruff Rhys will play the following UK shows:
October 2nd - Llandudno North Wales Theatre
October 3rd - Dublin Olympia Theatre
October 5th - Cardiff St David's Hall
October 6th - Leeds Irish Centre
October 7th - Manchester Central Methodist Hall
October 8th - Edinburgh Bongo Club
October 9th - The Middlesbrough Crypt
October 11th - Reading Concert Hall
October 12th - London O2 Shepherds Bush Empire
October 13th - Ashford St Mary's Church

The album title comes from a habit developed in SFA’s early touring days of collecting various freebies while touring the world. On watching "a particularly bad episode of Casualty" Gruff decided that the large collection of soaps, shampoos and various other odds and ends from all corners of the Globe should be put to some use and decided to build himself a ‘Hotel Shampoo’. Now, 15 years on, Gruff has accumulated a sufficient amount of material and the hotel was ready to be built. You can watch the two-day building of Gruff's ‘Hotel Shampoo’ below....and yes he does sleep in it on the final day!
