Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Banned In Lebanon

Monday, 06 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

Lady Gaga's latest studio album 'Born This Way' has been banned in Lebanon after officials deemed the record as "offensive to Christianity."

Gaga’s record label are believed to have shipped thousands of copies of the album to the Middle Eastern country, only to be told that the CD’s had been impounded by the Lebanese authorities “on grounds of bad taste”.

The move follows on from Gaga’s recent single ‘Judas’ being banned from broadcast on the country’s radio stations, after officials also claimed that the release was sacrilegious to Christianity.

Never known as an artist to shy away from controversy, Lebanon is not the only country to find a problem with Gaga’s latest musical offering. The title track ‘Born This Way’ was banned in Malaysia when it was originally released after the country’s officials objected to the song’s outward “promotion of homosexuality”.

However, the move by Lebanese authorities is unlikely to deter the US singer too much: over 1.1 million copies of 'Born This Way' have been sold so far in the US and the album has earned Number One position in the UK albums chart, knocking off long-term resident Adele.

As reported by Stereoboard earlier today, there is currently a large amount of speculation that Lady Gaga will announce newly-scheduled tour dates to promote her latest LP. As always, we will have all the latest ticket information as it happens.
