Example has condemned American dance music, claiming that it is “weak” compared to the sounds being produced on this side of the Atlantic. The British rapper, who is preparing to release his third LP ‘Playing In The Shadows’ later this summer, named several acts including LMFAO and David Guetta who he believes aren’t “saying anything”.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the rapper said: "A case in point would be that LMFAO tune ['Party Rock Anthem']. I'm not a fan of it but even I can't deny that when that's dropped in a club at 1am and everyone is drunk, it's going to get you dancing - but it's not saying anything."
He continued: "All these Guetta songs, none of them are saying anything. I don't hate Guetta, I just don't think it's challenging or exciting music."
Example went on to comment on the US music scene generally, claiming that his third studio album has encapsulated a “harder, darker” sound than the continent is generally capable of producing. He said: "Essentially what they're getting is the weaker side of European dance music. What I've done with [producer] Michael Woods... We've got the harder, darker side of it."
Meanwhile, as reported by Stereoboard earlier today, Example confirmed earlier that he will be embarking on an extensive UK tour this November.
