Alice Cooper: "Kids Today Are Afraid To Rock Out"

If anyone has anything to say about rocking out, it’s shock-rock god Alice Cooper - the man who chopped his own head off, electric shocked himself and faught with a snake, all while on stage.

But Alice Cooper has given a damning verdict about the kids of today: They’re afraid to rock out!

The original eccentric performer isn’t too sure about the newer generation of band’s attitude with the music, and thinks that to truly be a great performer, you have to live the alternative lifestyle too - whether it be with fake blood, crazy clothes or mountains of make-up.

“I think they're afraid to rock, I think they're afraid to get up there and just rock. My generation couldn't wait to get up and do it!

“I’m looking at bands and they're all wearing Gap shirts and Dockers. Now there's nothing wrong with Gap shirts, as long as they're doused in blood!”

It’s fair to say that 63 year-old Cooper does have a point - shock-rock seems to be a thing of the past nowadays, and the scary image of rockstars doesn’t really go beyond the masks of Slipknot anymore. But the newer generation weren’t the only ones Alice, real name Vincent Furnier, had a bone to pick with - the star is unhappy at the amount of artists retiring at young ages these days.

"If you look at the guys who give the awards, it's always Iggy Pop or Ozzy Osbourne or myself, or somebody that's been in the business since the 60s - and we're all still playing, we're still performing!"

Although he can be considered an OAP, these may not just be the rants of a grumpy old man, and this image could be what rock as a genre is missing these days. Or it could be the rants of a grumpy old man.
