Red Bull Bedroom Jam Showcases Top Up & Coming Talent At Download 2011

This year’s Download Festival was once again home to some of the top up and coming artists around as the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage took up residency for three days, showcasing some of the UK’s newest and most promising talent.

Throughout the festival, the eight successful bands from this year’s Red Bull Bedroom Jam online competition joined passed successes on stage to prove their worth. Representing the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Alumni were 2009 champions Don Broco on Friday and 2010’s You And What Army on Sunday. Both returning to the stage that won them new followers during their time in the festival eight.

Glasgow-based MakeThisRelate were the first to the stage at this year’s festival, immediately drawing in a crowd and, as the second band to play Download, successfully warming up the audience. Hill Valley High were next to the stage, proving why they topped this year’s ‘Festival Buzz Chart’ with an energetic set that hyped up the crowd. Punk four piece Page44 were next up to a crowd of fans, their set led by the chorus of sing-alongs and female-fronted Essex band The Hype Theory stayed true to their namesake and had the audience jumping for the full set.

Red Bull Bedroom Jam’s ‘wild card’ The Ocean Between Us showed just why they have made it to the festival tour by delivering an intense set to an exciting crowd on Saturday. Lead singer Judd Wrighton lost a front tooth midway through the set, carrying on regardless only to stick it back with glue after the performance.

Sunday’s line-up proved no less impressive as post-hardcore offerings Floods and Autumn In Disguise performed to a crowded tent of unyielding festival-goers, while Northamptonshire’s ACODA demonstrated the passion and excitement that has got them so far in this year’s competition as lead singer Damon Tang wowed the audience with impressive vocals to match the catchy riffs that filled their set.

The tour continues today at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards at London’s O2 Indigo. To mark the event, Bed Bull Bedroom Jam bands will be performing for the most important names in rock on the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage at this year’s pre-awards boat party.
