No Doubt “Very Close” To Completing New LP

Wednesday, 29 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

No Doubt have revealed that they are “very close” to completing the follow-up to their 2001 album ‘Rock Steady’. The band have been writing and recording their new LP since 2008, and revealed in a recent interview that the final version of the currently-untitled album should be completed within two months.

No Doubt have been recording with Mark 'Spike' Stent (of Madonna, Dave Matthews and Hurts fame) behind the helm as engineer on the album. The band reconvened in 2008 to write and record new material, but decided to take a break when lead singer Gwen Stefani announced that she was pregnant. However, after spending the bulk of this year recording in Santa Monica, it would appear that the long wait for new No Doubt material is almost over.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the upcoming release, Stefani said: “It's so exciting to have a record coming out, and we all want the same thing: for it to be modern and catchy and addictive. Once you make music that connects with people, it's like you taste blood — you can't go back."

After releasing two successful solo albums in 2004 and 2006, Stefani went on to admit that she is glad not to be working with hired songwriters on the new album. She said: "I had gone on my tortured journey of working with outside songwriters. I would throw up if someone made me do that again. Writing with other people is a learning experience."

Bassist Tony Kanal continued: "But when you come back, and you're sitting in a room together, it feels like home."
