Maximo Park To Play Intimate Newcastle Charity Gig Tomorrow Night

Newcastle-based post-punkers Maximo Park have announced a charity gig in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust in their home town. The intimate performance will take place at Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s Cluny venue tomorrow night (Thursday 21st July) – tickets will be available on the door from midday at a price of £6.
Speaking about the event, singer Paul Smith said: “Since we’re hard at work on our fourth album, those who make it down will bear witness to our only Newcastle show this year. We thought it would be good if we could donate any proceeds form the gig to the Teenage Cancer Trust, who help people in the RVI, our local hospital.”
The follow-up to 2009’s ‘Quicken the Heart’ is expected to be released sometime next year. Maximo Park are due to be headlining Ben and Jerry’s Sundae Festival this weekend – Saturday 23rd July, Manchester’s Heaton Park and Sunday 24th July, London’s Clapham Common. They will also be performing at the Y-Not Festival in the Peak District next month, as well as Bingley Music Live in September.
In 2005, Maximo Park released their debut album ‘A Certain Trigger’, which entered the UK Albums Chart at Number 15. Its successor, 2007’s ‘Our Earthly Pleasures’, was even more successful, reaching Number Two and including the Top 10 single ‘Our Velocity’. Last year, lead vocalist Paul Smith took some time out from the band to release his debut solo album ‘Margins’.
