Adele has claimed the Number One spot on the US albums chart again this week, meaning that she has gained the most weeks at the top spot since Santana’s Supernatural in 1999. The London-born singer has now earned 12 non-consecutive weeks on top of the US chart with her sophomore LP ‘21’, earning her the best chart record this side of the millennium.
‘21’ has stayed within the top three spots in the US albums chart since being released 24 weeks ago, eclipsing other efforts by major artists including Lady Gaga and Britney Spears to become this year’s top-selling album in the US.
However, the ‘Someone Like You’ singer’s reign is likely to come to an end this week, as Kanye West and Jay-Z have reportedly already notched up 500,000 sales of their first joint LP ‘Watch The Throne’.
Meanwhile, Adele recently revealed that alcohol was the key to her lyrical success. The singer admitted that a “drunk diary” was the foundation of her lyrics for ‘21’, where she would write her thoughts and feelings after a heavy night out helping to bring out emotions in their most honest form.
In the US singles chart, dance merchants LMFAO take the Number One spot with their hit ‘Party Rock Anthem’. They manage to beat Eminem’s side project Bad Meets Evil, who earn the Number Two position with ‘Lighters’, and Maroon 5 (Feat. Christina Aguilera) who earn Number Three with ‘Moves Like Jagger’.
