LaFaro – Meat Wagon (Single Review)

Monday, 12 September 2011 Written by Ben Bland

Don’t expect any sign of remorse from LaFaro. These Northern Irish tricksters are going to take your ears and slice them into hundreds of tiny little pieces and 'Meat Wagon' is them doing that at their very best. There’s an element of their countrymen, and alt-metal legends, Therapy? in their snarling delivery and breakneck intensity but there is also a heavy dollop of seething The Jesus Lizard-esque devotion to noise that sets them a little apart.

This is actually a ridiculously catchy tune as well, despite the fact that the lyrics are pretty much completely indecipherable. The rallying “hey” cries acting as backing vocals give the song an edge that means it can compete with the best of sing along punk anthems whilst also retaining enough brute force to imitate a sledgehammer striking you in the gut. With this band there is no compromise. As a teaser for forthcoming full-length 'Easy Meat', this is simply irresistible. LaFaro are coming to your house…they know where you live. They are going to rip you apart.

'Meat Wagon' is released 12th September. LaFaro release 'Easy Meat', the full-length album, on Smalltown America on 19th September. LaFaro tour the UK in October. Further coverage will be available on Stereoboard.com
