Organisers of the Michael Forever tribute concert have been dealt a blow after The Black Eyed Peas were forced to pull-out of the show, just three days before the concert takes place in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
The tribute, which has plagued by controversy since day one, received a lot of criticism due to its less than star-studded line-up, which was seen as very poor by a lot of disgruntled fans – who were also upset at the steep prices they’d have to pay for tickets. Now, after the cancellation of the Black Eyed Peas, there will no doubt be more backlashes from potential concert-goers.
A statement from the official Facebook page reads: “Due to unavoidable circumstances, the Black Eyed Peas will be unable to perform at this Saturday’s Michael Forever event.”
It continues: “Chris Hunt, CEO Global Live Events, said: ‘It is with regret that we announce the removal of Black Eyed Peas from the Michael Forever bill, but I look forward to a great night with other earth shattering artists. The event is really getting into gear and is going to be a fantastic evening for all’.
There has been a mixed reaction from Facebook users since the announcement last than an hour ago – Steve Kerwin wrote: “’It will still be a good show”, while Dan Edwards moaned “another let down.” Some fans have reacted worse than others though, and have accused chiefs of using the Black Eyed Peas name to sell tickets.
Kim Butt fumed “I have emailed and emailed and keep being fobbed off and I am going to take this all the way they have until lunchtime to sort this out as I am fuming and hate being taken for a MUG this will be in the paper and trade standards.”
User Dom Stevens wrote “They were one of the acts I was most looking forward to! :( It does feel like you announced them just to sell tickets, as that is when I bought mine.”
