Britain’s Got Talent Winner Jai McDowall Announces Debut Album

Thursday, 03 November 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Scottish singer Jai McDowall, who won this year’s Britain’s Got Talent in June, has revealed details of his debut album ‘Believe’, which is due for release on 12th December. The album will be preceded by a single, a cover of U2’s ‘Without of Without You’. The release date for the single is yet to be confirmed.

‘Believe’ is also set to feature a number of other cover versions including Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, Evanescence’s ‘Bring Me To Life’, Green Day’s ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’ and Josh Groban’s ‘To Where You Are’, with which he won Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year. The album also features a collaboration with New Zealand-born classical singer Hayley Westenra on Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s ‘The Prayer’. Westenra’s own album ‘Paradiso’ recently reached Number One in the UK Classical Albums Chart upon its release earlier this year.

Speaking about recording his first album, McDowall said: “Being in the studio was everything I hoped it would be and I loved the whole creative process. I like the style of singing I did on Britain’s Got Talent – a kind of mix of musical and pop – so we’re working along those lines.”

He went on to talk about his performances on the recent Britain’s Got Talent Tour: “The tour was amazing and it was great to get to know the other acts. It was scary in Glasgow as that’s where all my friends and family came to see me. It made me much more nervous and I was nearly sick before I went on, but it was great training. I’ve done some other gigs since and it’s just been brilliant. I’m definitely getting more used to being up on stage.”

Jai McDowall will also be performing for HRH The Queen at the Royal Variety Performance in December.
