Essex-based five-piece Missing Andy have announced their contender for the Christmas #1 slot - with the darkly comic live favourite ‘Dave’ being released on the 18th of December.
‘Generation Silenced’, the album it’s been taken from, has been selected by HMV as part of their ‘Next Best Thing’ initiative and will be released on 6 February 2012. The album features 12 new tracks, all written and produced by the band. Missing Andy specialize in anthemic, hard-hitting songs that will stimulate both your brain and your dancing boots.
‘Dave’ tells the story of ‘Dirty Suzanna’, whom the band meets in Canning Town after a gig. She’s a girl who’s keen to get onto the band’s bus, even if the guys are not so sure. With lyrics like “I put your band’s sticker on me Primark knickers, and I think that might’ve broken the ice,” the song is laced with dub undertones and is in the same narrative vein as The Jam, The Clash and The Specials.
Despite the humour in its delivery, ‘Dave’ nonetheless proves the band’s ambitious lyrical swagger and underlines the story-telling, lyrical approach that Missing Andy take. Much of their material is inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised youth and the social issues that most bands steer clear of. The video for ‘Dave’ is already causing a stir online; taking a break from more serious previous videos it’s a Carry On / Western style caper that features several band members in drag.
