Rodrigo Y Gabriela Offer First Song from ‘Area 52’ – Listen Now

Mexican acoustic rock duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela are offering fans the first song from their forthcoming album ‘Area 52’ at their official website. ‘Juan Loco’, which is also available to listen to below, features a 13-piece Cuban orchestra and jazz bassist Carles Benavent. The new album is due for release on 23rd January.

Speaking about the new song, Rodrigo Sanchez said: “For ‘Juan Loco,’ we decided to get Carles Benavent to play the bass as well as he did on ‘11:11’ because it felt like he could just change the rhythm in terms of the bass line, in terms of making it a little bit less Latin and more kind of his way - you know, which could be jazzy, could be more flamenco based style or whatever. And it goes well with the guitars because it's a very hyperactive track in terms of playability and he suits perfectly for these kinds of tracks.”

‘Area 52’, the duo’s fourth album to date, is set to feature the talents of C.U.B.A. – a 13-piece orchestra from Havana – making it Rodrigo Y Gabriela’s first recorded collaboration with another group of artists. They will be following the album’s release with a number of UK tour dates in February, when they will be joined onstage by C.U.B.A. See below for all dates and tickets.
