iAm1 Release Cover of Cherry Ghost and Birdy’s ‘People Help the People’

Thursday, 15 December 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

London duo iAm1 have released their own version of Birdy’s recent single ‘People Help the People’, which was itself a cover of an Ivor Novello-winning track by Cherry Ghost. The new iAm1 version is available to download from the duo’s SoundCloud page and can also be heard below.

Speaking about the new cover, iAm1’s Oli Rose said: “We are not precious. If we hear something really good, someone else's work, then it's fun to put the iAm1 stamp on it, but always with respect and to honour the original work. We've often done this as an outtake at the end of studio writing sessions. Then maybe if it works, it gets passed around friends, so posting it on our social space for free is just an extension of that, no grand statement.”

iAm1 were formed by singer-songwriter Oli Rose and MC Jamie Wallace while the pair were studying at Westminster University, where they first met in 2008. The duo’s single ‘The Movement’ was the first-ever track to be recorded using a PC game. In addition to their own headlining shows, iAm1 have also supported the likes of Jessie J and Tinie Tempah.
