Bad Seed Warren Ellis Announces New Dirty Three Album

Following news of Grinderman’s alleged split earlier this week, the band’s Warren Ellis has announced the release of a new album from his other project Dirty Three. The album, ‘Toward the Low Sun’, is due for release in March 2012. It is Dirty Three’s eighth album to date and their first in over six years following 2005’s ‘Cinder’.

Dirty Three have also been confirmed for All Tomorrow’s Parties’ Mogwai-curated I’ll Be Your Mirror event on Saturday 26th May 2012 at Alexandra Palace alongside the likes of Mudhoney.

Speaking about the new album ‘Toward the Low Sun’, Warren Ellis said: “Dirty Three has always been about the way we play together and feed off each other. We wanted this one to be a return to the more improvised and instinctive approach of the earlier recordings.”

In addition to his work with Dirty Three, Ellis is also a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He also makes up part of the Bad Seeds’ side-project Grinderman, who announced their split over the weekend at Australia’s Meredith Music Festival. The band are now likely to continue their work as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Ellis has also worked with Nick Cave on the soundtracks to the films ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’, ‘The Road’ and Cave’s film ‘The Proposition’. Dirty Three’s Jim White has performed and recorded with the likes of PJ Harvey, Cat Power and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.
