The Beach Boys Reunite For 50th Anniversary Tour & New Album

Californian surf-rock legends the Beach Boys have sensationally announced their return to the music scene, following their message earlier this week that there would be a ‘very big’ announcement at the Grammy awards.

The band revealed that they’ll be reuniting for an epic ‘global’ 50th anniversary celebration next year, as well as a headline performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (a.k.a Jazz Fest). But don’t worry Beach Boy fans – there’ll also be a massive 50-date international tour in April as well as a new studio album and some commemorative catalogue releases on the way. And the announcements haven’t finished yet – there are more exciting events still TBA.

Beach Boy Brian Wilson is excited at the prospect of working with his old mates once again, and said: “This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again.”

While fans will have to wait a little longer for tour dates to surface, Mike Love has explained how the reunion came together.

“We got together at Capitol Records and re-recorded 'Do It Again’,” Love said. “Brian and I wrote that song which went to #1 in Great Britain, Australia and elsewhere some 44 years ago. Brian paid me a compliment saying, 'How can a guy sound that great so many years later?' Later on, while working out some harmonies on a new song Brian had written, I got a chance to return the compliment.”

He continued: “It was a thrill to be around a piano again with Brian, Alan and Bruce and experience firsthand the brilliance of Cousin Brian's gift for vocal arrangements. I am very much looking forward to David Marks joining us and thrilling us with his surf guitar licks. Music has been the unifying and harmonizing fact of life in our family since childhood. It has been a huge blessing that we have been able to share with the world. Wouldn't It Be Nice to Do It Again? Absolutely!”

The Beach Boys have already recorded several of the tracks they plan to put on their brand new LP offering, and are hoping to record a fair few more before the album drops in 2012. But it’s not just fresh new material the band are going to be treating fans to – there’ll be some new hit collections and a career-spanning box-set on the way too.
