Blur's Alex James In Twitter Controversy After Fast Food Endorsement

Alex James, bassist for Britpop legends Blur, has caused a massive stir on Twitter after using his Sun Food column to praise fast-food chains McDonalds and KFC.

James has for a long time written articles for British tabloid paper The Sun about food, but has now landed himself in the middle of a massive argument with fans and food-lovers – who’ve accused him of ‘selling-out’. James is an award-winning cheese-maker and usually promotes healthy or more organic based foods, but has been accused of writing a ‘puff-piece’ (a term for a subjective piece of writing) which is free advertisement for the fast-food restaurants.

In his piece, James wrote: “Backstage was brilliant. There's some fantastic gear there and in some ways it's very similar to a Michelin-starred restaurant. When it's busy in a Michelin kitchen, all the chefs are doing is putting pre-prepared parts of a meal together, which is essentially the same as McDonald's. My day with McDonald's didn't put me off eating there at all... I was dazzled by the whole process from farm to factory to burger.”

He also told of his journeys to fried-chicken chain KFC, writing: “My wife Claire doesn't like the kids eating KFC because she thinks it's unhealthy. You'd certainly be mad to eat there all the time but there's nothing wrong with it as a treat. KFC are obviously responding to a demand for healthier food. They were excited about their new braiser oven, for non-fried chicken breast. I was impressed with how smoothly the operation ran.”

A quick Twitter search will reveal hundreds of users criticising the popstar, with one user writing: “I used to love Alex James! What happened...” and another: “Along with the rest of Twitter, we're a little perplexed by Alex James and his Fast Food promoting...”
