David Lynch Releases Super Deluxe Edition of ‘Crazy Clown Time’

Monday, 23 January 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

American film director David Lynch – known for cult classics such as ‘The Elephant Man’, ‘Eraserhead’, ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Twin Peaks’ – has announced the release of a Super Deluxe collectors’ edition of his debut album ‘Crazy Clown Time’, which originally came out last year.

The album features 13 original songs that are written, performed and produced by Lynch. The track ‘Pinky’s Dream’ includes guest vocals by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Lynch has teamed up with legendary graphic designer Vaughan Oliver to release the new Super Deluxe edition of ‘Crazy Clown Time’, which includes the album on CD, two heavyweight vinyl LPs and a 24-page art and lyrics book, housed in a red leatherette book with silver spine.

Speaking about the release, Oliver said: “The design of the Super Deluxe was inspired by the original photograph of the hand with red die that David sent for use on the front cover. Red, black and silvery grey in colour, it also has a low culture feel about it, which I developed in a tactile way with special materials. I was aiming for a sexy, kitsch quality with the black suede slipcase and red foil-blocked type. The overall effect exudes sex, sleaze and ‘roulette wheel’ ambience.”

Although David Lynch is probably known better for his visionary and often surreal films, including ‘Mulholland Drive’ and ‘Wild at Heart’, he has previously made a number of musical contributions to several of the soundtracks to his own features. In addition to his recent solo work, he also collaborated with Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse on their 2010 album ‘Dark Night of the Soul’.
