We Are Augustines Announce New Single ‘Chapel Song’ – Listen Now

Monday, 23 January 2012 Written by Rob Sleigh

Brooklyn-based indie-rock trio We Are Augustines have announced the release of ‘Chapel Song’, the second single to be taken from their debut album ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships’. The new track follows last year’s ‘Book of James’ and is due for release on 27th February. The album is out in the UK on 5th March and was recently named iTunes’ Alternative Album of 2011 in the US.

Speaking about the new single, We Are Augustines frontman Billy McCarthy said: “‘Chapel Song’ is a song about witnessing an old flame and bride-to-be walk down the aisle to be married. So often in life, it is difficult for us to keep a good face on the outside while our insides are burning. Hollow handshakes and blank stares at a wedding sum up the sentiment here. ‘Chapel Song’ was approaching the topic of the end, of impermanence. Part of life is letting things go and I suppose that’s the contradiction of it all – actually writing it down and singing it every night. Even impermanence has a pattern.”

We Are Augustines will be performing dates at the HMV Next Big Thing festival in London and Edinburgh next month amid a European tour with The Maccabees. They will also be supporting Cloud Control at their NME Awards Show in London – see below for all dates.
