Peter Hook In Legal Action Of New Order Name

Ex-New Order bassist Peter Hook has continued his bitter dispute with his ex-band mates, with the star telling NME that he has begun legal proceedings in order to stop them using the New Order name.

The band has been in dispute since around 2007, when Hook decided that he was going to leave the band. After suggesting that the group stop touring, Hook decided to tell fans that the band would be breaking up, despite the remaining members of New Order wanting to continue. A source close to the band said: “Peter Hook can leave the band, but this doesn't mean the end of New Order.”

After a quiet few years, the New Order members announced their return in 2011 without Hook. Tom Chapman took over on bass and Gillian Gilbert returned on keyboards for the first time in over ten years. The NME asked Hook about his position with the band now – to which he replied: “Nothing really. It's in the hands of the lawyers. The point is that they shouldn't be using the New Order name without me and it's up to the lawyers.” He added “I’ve grieved for New Order.”

He continued: “When I was in New Order I had a different way of looking at things, now we've split I started thinking about Joy Division and wondering why we didn't celebrate it. When Joy Division finished we immediately immersed ourselves in New Order and we didn't grieve when it ended.

“We threw everything into New Order and that worked while New Order were together, but it didn't work for me and I thought that I've watched people all around the world celebrate Joy Division, but why can't I? When I do it, I'm a villain. It's especially strange now that you've got someone purporting to be New Order, I'm grieving for New Order too because I realise that's over.”
