Military Wives Take Top Album Chart Spot With 'In My Dreams'

The Military Wives, a choir made up of the wives and girlfriends of those currently serving in Afghanistan, managed to overtake rock legend Bruce Springsteen in the UK Albums Chart this weekend – after a surge of Mother’s Day sales helped propel the track to #1.

‘In My Dreams’ is the group’s first ever album release, with the record hitting #1 for the first time since its release on March 5th, with £1 from every copy sold going to a charity for similar women affected by the war. It managed to sell over 8,000 copies more than Springsteen’s ‘Wrecking Ball’, which finished at #5, and features their huge-selling Christmas #1 ‘Wherever You Are’, which became the fastest selling charity singly since Elton John’s ‘Candle in the Wind’ – raising over £500,000.

Paul Mealor, who composed the original single, said of the album hitting #1: “It’s unbelievably magical to have achieved this – again! The legacy of this is the creation of Military Wives Choirs all over the country. It was brilliant to work again with the Military Wives Choir on 'In My Dreams', and how poignant to bring a serving soldier into the music with Jonjo Kerr. I feel proud and humble to be a part of this.”

The #2 spot in the charts was taken up by Emeli Sandé’s ‘Our Version of Events’, Adele’s record-breaking ‘21’ and Michael Kiwanuka’s ‘Home Again’ respectively, with Springsteen’s ‘Wrecking Ball’ concluding the top 5.
