Architects Claim They Have 'Got Their Balls Back' With New Album 'Daybreaker'

English metalcore five-piece Architects have claimed that their new album ‘Daybreaker’ will see them returning to their heavier roots – with guitarist Tom Searle telling NME that the band have really ‘got their balls back’.

‘Daybreaker’ is the follow-up to last year’s ‘The Here and Now’, which was a much more melodic and less tech-metal album than the what Architects fans were used. But the band have now promised that the new record, their fifth studio album of their career, will be much heavier – and will please their hardcore fans who Searle says may have thought the band had ‘regressed’.

“Some people might say we've regressed, but I think we've found our enthusiasm for playing heavy music again,” he told the site. “I'm excited again by what I've come up with on guitar and lyrically it's much more political and less personal.”

He continued: “I wanted to go back to being heavier and I think we've got our balls back. We're not a band that should be on daytime radio and even when we got that stuff, it felt a bit uncomfortable. I think we were out of our comfort zone and the shoe didn't fit.”

Searle also opened up about the album’s influences and themes, listing the August riots as an inspiration for the video their single ‘Devil’s Island’, which you can see below.

“[‘Devil’s Island] was the song that really drove us on. Sam [Carter, vocalist] came in with the song and it was different to anything we've ever done before and it was about something important and something big and it really gave us the courage to write about other important topics. There's a lot of religion on there, which is the fun thing about being an atheist. There's media, the society we live, the relationship we have with money, things like that.”
