'Winehouse's Death Left Me Unable To Move', Says Pete Doherty

Indie icon Pete Doherty has revealed how Amy Winehouse's death in July last year had a massive impact on him – with the Babyshambles man confessing that he was 'not able to leave' his house or even move.

Speaking to NME, Doherty told of how he was alone in his flat when he heard the news – and it left him shellshocked and unable to move. The star, who recently turned 33, added that Winehouse's father Mitch did not want him to attend her funeral – something which he found quite distressing.

“When Amy died I was sat in a matchbox room in Camden Town, not able to leave, basically wallowing in my own filth,” Doherty said. “Literally knee-deep in shit. Literally not able to move. I couldn't speak, I couldn't see anyone, I couldn't pick up the guitar and when I did pick up the guitar it was woeful ballads about how Amy wouldn't be coming round tonight. It wasn't a very inspiring time.”

He continued: “I think she would have wanted me at her funeral. It's a personal feeling of grief I've never had the chance to see through. I'm made to feel that I'm not her friend, which I was. She came to the Libertines' gig at the forum. We came back to the hotel and she stayed all night. At one point it was me, her and Carl having a little sing-song.

“I remember one time she was due to play at the Apollo in Hammersmith, she said: 'I saw you and Babyshambles play last week. I'll show you a real gig, come to my hotel room.' Her dad turned up at the hotel and told me 'You've got to go'.”

Doherty yesterday revealed he has written 12 new tracks for a new solo album.
