Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney has paid tribute to legendary guitarist Bert Weedon, OBE, after the influential musician passed away age 91 on Saturday (April 21st).
Weedon is considered one of the most talented and popular guitarists of the 50s and 60s, and is known by many as 'Britain's Mr Guitar'. He's worked with and influenced some of the most famous musicians in the world, incuding Eric Clapton and Frank Sinatra, but may be most famous for his guitar-teaching book range 'Play in a Day', which continues to help novices learn guitar today.
Another star he had a great influence on is Macca himself, and the star has taken his time to pay tribute to the man on his own website.
He wrote: “Dear Bert - we will miss him. From early childhood throughout our lives he was Britain's Mr guitar. He seemed to be the first person we saw on television showing us how to play and he left a lasting impression on us. We use to joke about how he played a thousand notes a minute but we were always impressed with him.
“Like us, he loved the guitar and communicated that passion to many generations. Bert, we'll miss you.”
