Superstar soul singer Adele has managed to overtake the Michael Jackson's iconic sixth studio album 'Thriller' in the all-time UK sales charts.
'21', Adele's second studio album, has seen the star catapulted to stardom in just over a year and has even been declared as the best-selling album of the past decade by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. Now, it's even managed to take over one of the most influential and iconic Michael Jackson albums of all time in the all-time UK sales records, after selling 4,274,300 copies 500 more than Jackson's 'Thriller'.
Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, said of the feat: To add to her many landmark records, Adele's achievement in overtaking 'Thriller' in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable. 'Thriller' has long been recognised as one of the most iconic albums of all time - there is now no doubt that '21' can be spoken of in the same breath.
This now means that '21' sits in the top five of the best-selling albums in UK history, behind Oasis's '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?', ABBA's 'Gold: The Greatest Hits', The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', and Queen's 'Greatest Hits' album respectively.
