Go-Go Legend Chuck Brown Dies Age 75

American singer-songwriter Chuck Brown, a.k.a The Godfather of Go-Go, has passed away age 75.

The influential guitarist, singer and producer died on his hospital bed last night, after a four-week battle with what is believed to be pneumonia. His actual death was officially caused by multiple organ failure and heart problems,

Brown has been a popular name in the music scene since the 60s and was well known as the frontman of Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, as well as the primary pioneer and fundamental force behind the creation of Go-Go music, a subgenre of 70s funk.

Vincent Gray, Mayor of Washington D.C. (where Brown and his Go-Go genre made their name), said in a statement: “Go-go is D.C.’s very own unique contribution to the world of pop music, and Chuck Brown was regarded as Go-go’s creator and, arguably, its most legendary artist. Today is a very sad day for music lovers the world over, but especially in the District of Columbia. Without Chuck Brown, the world – and our city – will be a different place. What a loss.”
