Barbarossa Unveils 'Battles' Video/Download - Watch Now

London-based singer-songwriter James Mathé, a.k.a Barbarossa, has unveiled the brand new music video for his single/free download ‘Battles’, which features Sean Harris.

Following the release of his EP 'Butterfly Plague' on Fence Records in June, London-based singer-songwriter James Mathé, aka Barbarossa has released a video for new track 'Battles'. Featuring Sean Harris, who most recently starred in Ridley Scott's acclaimed Prometheus, the video was directed by James' partner - actress and filmmaker Montserrat Lombard. Having acted alongside Lombard on a couple of projects and hearing Barbarossa's new tracks, Harris was keen to be involved in one of James' videos.

James was equally delighted to have Sean involved, saying: "I wanted to do something different visually with this song, rather than just have me in it. The idea was to make a short film around it with someone who can really act. I thought because the track is six and half minutes long and has the feel of a soundtrack there was scope to do something quite filmic with it. I love films, I studied film at university and am a little obsessed with them. I prefer to consume music with something visual to accompany it, whether it be a conventional music video, online live sessions or if i'm on the train just staring at the scenery."

Barbarossa’s output was previously quite folky, centered around an acoustic guitar, but his new style is now shaped by Casio keyboards, vintage synths and old drum machines. On 'Battles', which is being offering as a free download, Barbarossa's soulful-pop vocal soars over scattered drum beats and electric guitar arpeggios. Recorded to tape at Analogue Catalogue - an all analogue studio, located just outside of Manchester - 'Battles' is small a taste of what to expect from new album 'Bloodlines'.

You can listen to ‘Battles’ and watch the video below - the free download can be found here.
