Azealia Banks On Beyonce: "I met her - I cried"

After being crowned NME's 'coolest person of 2011' and seeing her profile snowball, Azealia Banks has become the foremost breakthrough rapper of 2012, helped along by her viral hit '212'. But despite her burgeoning success, it seems the artist still hasn't lost the ability to have a 'fan girl' moment every now and again.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Banks recalls the first time she met her idol, Beyonce, saying: "I love Beyonce - she’s the queen of everything. She's the most remarkable performer and musician. And this is just my humble opinion, but I just think she’s better than everyone else making music right now.

"I met her - and I cried! It was so embarrassing. It was at the Met Ball. I was f**king around with Kanye and she was sitting there, chilling and eating dinner.

"I freaked out. And I realized she saw me being a dummy and I started crying. Then I saw her expression, like, 'Girl, get your s**t together.

"I had to walk away and get myself together and pat my face, then come back to properly say hi! And if I meet her again someday, I’ll probably cry again."

Perhaps someone should tell Kleenex and Miss Banks that awards season is just around the corner, that's gonna be one hell of an order. Her debut album 'Broke with Expensive Taste' is out February 12th 2013.

For all that Kanye West and Donald Trump's ongoing public love-in has proven embarrassing and nightmarish for a whole host of reasons, one thing they do have in common is a shameless desire to promote their respective “brands” at every opportunity. West's decision to produce five projects over the course of one Wyoming session is an impressive endeavour in and of itself, but releasing them all within weeks of each other is narcissistic even by his standards.
Kanye West and Kid Cudi - Kids See Ghosts (Album Review)
Mon 25 Jun 2018
At first glance, 'Kids See Ghosts' doesn't appear to make sense. That's not to suggest Kanye West and his pop-rap protege Kid Cudi, architects of the project, are incapable of successfully collaborating. Rather, the record's triumphant tone and energy simply don't chime with everything we know about the Wyoming sessions in which it was made, where West also recorded his introspective solo album 'ye' and produced several mini-albums for other artists.

Drake - Scorpion (Album Review)
Mon 09 Jul 2018
A common criticism levelled at Drake over the years is that his records tend to sound the same, but it’s a jab that misses the mark. While it's true that the Toronto megastar has developed a dependable formula, delivering introverted yet accessible rhymes over new school production, there's a clear distinction between his sonically expansive early works and his minimalist quasi-dancehall records of recent years.
Kanye West - ye (Album Review)
Tue 05 Jun 2018
Kanye West’s eighth solo album, ‘ye’, is a hastily assembled seven-track brain fart covering themes of superstardom, current affairs and mental fragility. While there are some superb moments, the album is thinly spread over its 24 minutes and lacks a centre. Put simply, it feels unfinished.
